Abstract: During the production and storage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in LNG plants, a large amount of Boil-off Gas (BOG) will be generated. BOG not only contains considerable cold energy, but also belongs to helium rich natural gas, which has great development and utilization value. Taking a LNG plant with an annual output of 200,000 tons in Ordos Basin as an example, this paper designs the process flow for BOG helium extraction and cold energy recovery and utilization based on the analysis of raw natural gas, purified natural gas, BOG components and treatment technology, and estimates the investment cost and economic benefits. The results show that the construction of BOG helium extraction and cold energy recovery unit in LNG plant has good profitability. The enterprise can achieve an annual average profit of 33,683,400 yuan from helium sales alone and an annual cold energy recovery of 1,182,800 kW·h, reducing the cost by 496,800 yuan based on electricity prices.
