Abstract: With the introduction of the Belt and Road Initiatives, the proportion of petrochemical projects in overseas markets will increase in the future. Polypropylene project is not only the first overseas petrochemical project of SINOPEC Engineering Incorporation, but also one of its key projects in the international market. This project adopts the IPMT + EPCC general contract management model. The scope of work includes engineering design, procurement, construction, intermediate handover and commissioning. Material control management unifies the management of equipment and materials procured by the project using Smart Plant Materials working software and Marian Report reporting documents. Taking the project material control discipline as an example, this article briefly discusses the methods, the difficulties and the solutions to the material control management on the sites abroad, and provides some ideas and directions for the future work
Key words: general contract project, engineering management, material control
