Abstract: In the information era, digital technology has become an important tool. In order to meet the needs of this era, Building Information Model (BIM) appeared. BIM is not only a three-dimensional visual building model, but also a carrier of information. It is a comprehensive database carrying all the building information. It can be used not only for architectural design, but also for structural design, equipment management, engineering quantity statistics, cost calculation, property management, etc., playing its role in the whole life cycle of building. Based on the theory of BIM technology, this paper discusses how to use computer software to assist the architectural design. Through an engineering example, this paper discusses the role of BIM technology in architectural design. The establishment of BIM model is taken as the basis of the application of BIM technology, and the whole building is comprehensively analyzed in design stage combined with the application of BIM multi-disciplinary and multi-faceted collaborative design. The results reflect the feasibility and advantages of BIM in computer-aided architectural design.
